QUESTION
She has suddenly become very naughty stealing food off plates, drinking out of cups, chewing items up not responding to commands all of which she has never done before. She has been a very well behaved dog up until a few month ago when she changed almost overnight. My relative who owns her is also disabled and finds it hard taking her out for lengthy walks. Is there anything she can do which may help?
Alison
ANSWER
Dear Alison,
Sudden changes in behaviour are always difficult to deal with and, in a middle aged dog, can have many causes some physical and some behavioural. Before doing anything else you must have a complete clinical examination done by your vet who will also advise on any necessary blood tests and investigations. Should this work produce a clean bill of health then a chat with a behaviourist will be needed to see if any changes in how the dog is managed will be beneficial.
