YOUNG offenders have raised more than £800 for charity by taking on an iron-man challenge.
Inmates at Northallerton Prison formed teams of eight for the event. Each team had to complete a two-and-a half-mile row, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run.
The winning team took nine hours and 58 minutes.
Staff and offenders raised more than £800 through sponsorship.
It will be donated to the Butterwick Hospice, in Stockton.
Inmates were given a talk and shown a video about the work of the hospice as part of the event.
A prison spokeswoman said: "It was a really tough challenge, but everyone did really well.
"One offender even said to me that he would never have given money to charity before, but he would now he had seen the other side and what the money was going towards."
