VISITORS to a North Yorkshire forest will be treated to the sight of husky racing next week.
About 100 teams will compete in the Supa Dog Siberian Husky Rally in Broxa Forest, near Scarborough, on December 30 and 31.
The teams, which consist of up to six dogs, will pull their drivers around a 4.5-mile course on three-wheeled carts.
Rally organiser and competitor Alistair Spowart said: "Although the sport is growing in popularity, it's still quite unusual to see huskies racing through a forest in this country, so it's a very special sight.
"This is the first time we've held a rally at Broxa and we've had a great response.
"Because of its central location, competitors are travelling from all across the country to take part, from northern Scotland right down to Plymouth.
"Spectators are more than welcome - it's a chance to experience something you don't see every day.
"Rallies are exciting for people of all ages to watch, and this one will no doubt help make the magic of Christmas last that little bit longer."
Mr Spowart and his wife, Nicky, have been racing huskies for the past ten years. The couple, who live near York, share their home with 14 Siberian huskies, and spend most winter weekends travelling around the country to rallies.
Next week's event is sponsored by North Yorkshire dog food manufacturer Supa Dog.
