GUIDELINES on holding parties have been issued by a school to parents anxious to keep their teenagers safe.
Ashville College, in Harrogate, took the step after requests from parents and national concerns over binge drinking. Topics covered include alcohol and illicit drugs, staying the night away from home, transport, supervision, guest numbers and problems with "open house" parties.
Headteacher Andrew Fleck said the guidelines were precautionary.
He said: "We want all our pupils to have fun and enjoyment outside of the school day with their friends, but want them to act responsibly in doing so and, above all else, ensure the safety of themselves and of others.
"After requests from a small but significant number of parents of pupils aged between 13 and 16, we felt it would be helpful to add clarity and consistency to the organisation of teenage parties by drawing up this guidance."
Guidelines were based on information from official sources.
In keeping with the school's Methodist foundation, there is emphasis on responsible alcohol consumption.
