COUNCILS across North Yorkshire are urging parents of young babies to use environmentally friendly nappies.
As part of the Get Real in York and North Yorkshire campaign, the waste partnership covering the two areas is offering eligible parents and carers a free two-week trial of reusable nappies.
Mothers can try nine nappies from traditional to modern, in a variety of styles and fabrics, with all as easy to use as disposable nappies.
The partnership, which aims to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill, is targeting disposable nappies because they account for two per cent of all rubbish generated in the county and take hundreds of years to decompose.
A £30 cash-back alternative is available for real nappy purchases of £50 or more. All mothers of babies born after April 1 are eligible for the scheme, and a copy of the birth certificate will be needed, as well as itemised receipts for the cash-back option.
To take advantage of the offer, call the waste campaigns officer on 01609-533312.
