A NEW sensory room for young hospital patients is a step closer thanks to the efforts of Round Table members.

Twelve members of the Stokesley group tackled the Three Peaks of Yorkshire.

They completed the 25-mile walk in nine hours, 45 minutes, a new record for the Round Table.

The walk raised £2,000 for the children's ward at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

Ward manager Cathy Brammer said: "While we have some facilities for children with special needs in the hospital, we really wanted a dedicated area on the ward where children could go.

"We have already been able to purchase some equipment due to the kind donations to the ward from other groups, but with this very generous gift, we hope to be able to expand on what we have got and make it a designated area.

"It will give them their own safe space in a vibrant and colourful environment to explore things we so often take for granted."

Work is expected to start in the new year.
