A SENSOR room for young hospital patients is a step closer to reality, thanks to the efforts of Round Table members.
Twelve members of the Stokesley group tackled the Three Peaks of Yorkshire earlier this year, completing the 25-mile walk in nine hours and 45 minutes, a record time for the group.
The walk raised £2,000 for the children's ward at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.
Ward manager Cathy Brammer said: "While we have some facilities for children with special needs in the hospital, we really wanted a dedicated area on the ward where children could go.
"We have already been able to purchase some equipment, due to the kind donations to the ward from other groups, but with this very generous gift we hope to be able to expand on what we've got and make it a designated area.
"Essentially, it will give youngsters their own safe space in a vibrant and colourful environment to explore things we so often take for granted."
Ms Brammer added: "We're hoping work will start in the new year."
Round Table chairman Neil Lawson said: "It's fantastic knowing we've helped to ensure a far more pleasant time in hospital for special needs children in the Tees Valley area, and we were delighted to help out."
