POLICE have arrested eight people in connection with an attack on two others in a town last month.
Sergeant Simon Wilson, of Northallerton police, said CCTV footage had helped identify those suspected of causing serious injuries to the pair after an incident in Elder Road, in the town.
Sgt Wilson told this week's meeting of the town council that two men had also been arrested and charged in connection with a spate of graffiti where the words "Rude Boy" were sprayed across locations in Northallerton, including the library subway.
Police are also trying to help solve problems relating to the Trinity Gardens area, on the town's Ashlands Estate.
A footpath at the end of Valley Road that backs on to Trinity Gardens has been a trouble spot for years, with youths congregating and behaving anti-socially, intimidating those using the path and those who live nearby.
A taskforce was put together, which met with the police, and Sgt Wilson said a number of solutions had been offered.
He said fencing off the path and turning it into a landscaped area was favoured. The group will meet again next month.
There were 110 offences in Northallerton between November 15 and December 18, including 20 assaults, five burglaries, 45 thefts and 23 instances of criminal damage.
The detection rate was 36.4 per cent, above the national average of 30 per cent.
