A WOMAN has made a sweet gesture to bring together two religions at Christmas time.
Lara Dubov, 36, of Newfield, Chester-le-Street, has made a cathedral and mosque out of gingerbread.
The structures are joined with a bridge and have people made out of marzipan.
It is about 2ft tall and has a sign that reads Peace on Earth. Mrs Dubov said: "I have been making gingerbread houses for about ten years now. People ask me if it is difficult, but I just tell them it is a piece of cake."
Mrs Dubov, who is originally from California, US, works as an air stewardess and was inspired by buildings she has seen on her travels.
The cathedral is based on the one in San Paolo, Brazil, and the mosque is based on the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey.
It is on display at Roseberry Primary School, in Chester-le-Street, and parents who visit are asked to make a donation to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
