REDUNDANT musical instruments are to be given a new lease of life thousands of miles across the globe.
More than 30 recorders have been handed over to the Rotary Club of Guisborough and Great Ayton following an appeal last month.
They are to help to re-equip a school in the West Indies.
"We have enough to equip a whole class of children," said Peter Etwell, president of the club.
People handed in the instruments at libraries throughout Redcar and Cleveland. They have since been cleaned, sorted and packed, ready for their journey to the island of Grenada.
The school suffered serious structural damage during Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and virtually all its music equipment was lost or destroyed.
The Guisborough and Great Ayton club has led a worldwide project to help the school.
Rotary clubs in Kenilworth and throughout the North-East have combined with the International Fellowship of Rotarian Musicians to raise more than £2,000.
Mr Etwell said: "What started as a simple idea has brought together members of Rotary clubs across the world."
The instruments will be handed over to the school early in January.
