Do you, or members of your family, remember the Coronation 60 years ago? Cleveland Philharmonic Choir is collecting these memories to form part of an exhibition about the Coronation which will be set up in Middlesbrough Town Hall at the end of June. Copies or scans of any related pictures would also be very welcome. Material should be sent to choir secretary Joan Carter on secretary@clevelandphilharmonicchoir.com . Contributors will be credited by initials only.

The exhibition will form the backdrop to a concert of much of the splendid music of the 1953 ceremony at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Saturday 29 June, performed by the 120-strong choir and The Mowbray Orchestra. The music will include Handel’s Zadok the Priest and Parry’s I was Glad, as well as some less well-known items, and there will be some opportunities for the audience to sing too. Full details of the programme are on the choir’s website www.clevelandphilharmonicchoir.com, and tickets (£14 adult, £12 concession, £2 child) are on sale now from Denis Rigg 01642 782009 or the Town Hall box office 01642 729729.

Each of the five Tees Valley Local Authorities (Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar&Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees) has contributed funding for this concert. This enables young instrumentalists to sit in with the orchestra as they rehearse on concert afternoon, then meet their professional partners. Young singers will rehearse with the choir. All the participants will receive a warm welcome, and FREE concert tickets and programmes. Anyone interested in taking part, or spreading news of the opportunity to young people (aged under 19, though musicians in Darlington of any age can apply) should email choir secretary Joan Carter on secretary@clevelandphilharmonicchoir.com or phone her on 01642 656273.
