A SEARCH has been launched to find the worst rock band in a North-East town.
In a reversal of the traditional X-Factor-style talent contest, First Stop Darlington (FSD) is looking for a band with no musical ability.
The winner of the contest will be groomed into rock superstars in six weeks - just in time to headline a music showcase.
The contest is part of a 14- week internet music programme that FSD is working on with Darlington Borough Council's youth service.
It will involve up to 18 young people, as well as the members of local bands.
They will be trained to plan, produce and edit six music shows to be shown over the internet.
The shows will feature performances and interviews and will take their inspiration from Top of the Pops and Later with Jools Holland.
The Forum Music Centre will provide equipment and expertise and training for presenters, directors and camera operators.
The aim is to produce one show every two weeks.
One part of the project will follow a newly established band as it works with the Northern School of Contemporary Music to improve their image, musicianship, and interview skills.
Alan Evans, youth development worker at First Stop, said: "We want bands that really need improving.
"However, this is just one part of the whole project and so we are keen to hear from anyone who wants to get involved."
Anyone interested in taking part in the project, as a performers or production staff, is asked to contact Mr Evans on 01325-254463 or email aj_evans@msn.com
