AN operation to tackle anti-social behaviour was launched on Saturday.
Police and police community support officers were involved in high-visibility patrols in areas of Stanley.
Their efforts focused on trouble hotspots, including the skate park in Chester Road, South Moor, as well as Hollyhill Gardens and Front Street, in South Moor.
PC Jayne Goodfellow, of Stanley Police, said: "We've been receiving more reports about groups of youths congregating in particular areas and causing problems.
"Underage drinking is often a factor in low-level crime, such as public order offences and criminal damage, and when we come across young people drinking alcohol outside we'll take it from them."
The force is working with other agencies, such as the council and youth services, during Operation Dinosaur, to gather intelligence and identify youths responsible for anti-social behaviour.
PC Goodfellow added: "Youngsters who repeatedly come to our attention will have their behaviour reported to their parents or guardians, so that we literally send home the message that this behaviour is unacceptable.
"In the case of persistent troublemakers, other agencies may also be informed."
