Youngsters braved the morning frosts at the weekend to plant 20 trees in a nature reserve.
The children, along with parents and grandparents, are all part of Bishop Middleham's Carrot Club.
The group, which meets weekly, is concerned with promoting healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle among pre-school children.
All the trees were donated by Cemex Stockton and planted at Bishop Middleham's Wildlife Garden.
One of the club's organisers, Nicola Dexter, said: "This is just one of many activities that we've done with the children. Everything is very much family orientated and we have members from new-born babies to grandparents.
"We don't just encourage them to eat healthy food we like to be able to show them how it's produced and prepared."
The club recently received a grant towards its running costs from the lottery's Awards for All scheme. Some of the money will be used to pay the rent and develop an allotment where the children can grow fruit and vegetables.
