A DRINK-DRIVE message has taken to the road.
Two vans, each fitted with three large-screen video players, will be travelling round North Yorkshire every day in the run-up to Christmas.
They show a short film about the reality of accidents caused by drink-drivers, including moving testimony from victims.
It concludes with the current television message that depicts a young drink-driver in a pub who is suddenly confronted with the potential consequences of his actions.
The vans will also show images of posters and beer mats bearing the Drink Or Drive, You Decide message being promoted via licensed premises across North Yorkshire.
The police video van operation is supported by North Yorkshire County Council and the 95 Alive Road Safety Partnership.
Inspector Chris Charlton said: "The message that drinking and driving make a deadly combination is not a new one, but we believe this innovative and fresh approach gives it new impetus, and will catch the attention of people who may have become blasé about this desperately important information.
"The vans will be stopping in market places and shopping streets right up to Christmas Day and I believe they will make an impact.
"It is not our intention to spoil the festive season for anyone, but I believe this video will remind everyone that drink-driving is literally a matter of life and death."
Since the force launched its drink-drive campaign at the beginning of December, officers have arrested 75 drivers in connection with drink offences, more than six a day.
