A COBBLED street in Bishop Auckland resembled a Victorian Christmas scene yesterday.
Traders in Fore Bondgate, one of the town's oldest and most historic areas, held a Dickensian day.
Shop owners and staff dressed in period costumes while a barrel organ player was present.
The Charles Dickens-themed event was the first time traders have got together to support a Christmas theme and was the idea of Anthony Toward, owner of Chi-cargo clothes shop.
He said: "I've had enormous support for the theme day, with many shops and businesses agreeing to decorate their shop frontages. It's the perfect place to do your Christmas shopping."
