Third Test Match Perth Australia 244 (M E K Hussey 74 no, M S Panesar 5-92, S J Harmison 4-48) & 119-1 (R T Ponting 57 no, M L Hayden 57 no) v England 215 (K P Pietersen 70)
AUSTRALIA ran up a healthy lead in the third Ashes Test despite England's lower order resistance.
Resuming the second day at the WACA on a perilous 51 for two, still trailing by 193 runs, England's best chance of remaining competitive in the series appeared to lie in them passing Australia's total of 244.
But despite a determined 40-run stand between Durham fast bowler Steve Harmison and Monty Panesar for the tenth wicket, England were dismissed for 215 to hand Australia a 29-run lead.
That advantage was extended to 148 runs after the home side reached 119 for one by the close.
