THE sharing of the Peace Light will take place next week on its journey from Bethlehem.
The Peace Light starts its journey at the grotto of Christ's birth in Bethlehem, and will arrive in Stockton on Thursday.
Organised by the Scout movement, the light is taken by a Palestinian child and handed to an Israeli Scout at the border. It is then flown to Vienna, from where it is distributed to all European countries and farther afield.
The aim of the project is to bring peace and friendship throughout the world.
Local Scout leader Arthur Woof will receive the light at Darlington railway station and distribute it to churches and organisations wishing to receive it.
Mayor of Stockton Suzanne Fletcher will lead the sharing at Dodshon's Fountain, in Stockton High Street, at 6.30pm.
She said: "I wanted to give the opportunity to all of our local churches, and representatives from other faiths, to be able to receive the light.
"Everyone is welcome to come along to the sharing of the Peace Light - just bring along a suitable receptacle, such as a lantern, to take the light away."
