EASINGTON District Council has appointed a fuel poverty officer to help poor residents cut their fuel bills and still stay warm.
Jason Martin can give people information about grants and funding available to help people heat their homes more efficiently.
He said: "Many people struggle to keep their homes warm at this time of year due to the price of fuel and the added costs of Christmas, and if your home is colder than is comfortable, you can suffer a wide range of health problems.
"However there are solutions to fuel poverty. You can switch to a cheaper fuel provider, or install loft and cavity wall insulation.
"You should also check you are receiving all the benefits you are entitled to, as these will help you cover the cost of heating bills. In the district of Easington, for example, only one in ten households claim Council Tax Benefit
