YOUNGSTERS on a hospital children's ward had an early taste of the spirit of Christmas thanks to local health workers.
Staff at the Primary Care Trust's offices in Thirsk and Northallerton organised a fundraising event, to provide gifts for patients on the children's ward at the Friarage Hospital.
They dressed up in red and gold outfits, donated cash and bought toys and books for the youngsters who would be spending the festive period on the ward.
Trust spokesman Anne Botterill said: "Spending time in hospital during any season can be very difficult for patients who are away from their families and friends.
"This is especially true for children and it's why we choose the children's ward to benefit from our fun day."
Ward sister Jo Kesley said: "This is a wonderful help to the children's unit. We always need toys and games to keep the youngsters amused and the range here is very impressive.
"Some will be kept aside and used as Christmas presents to be given to the children who are unfortunate enough to be with us on Christmas Day."
