A MAN who went joyriding in two cars taken from his brother's garage was drunk, a court heard.
Michael Richard Hill - whose family run a Wensleydale haulage business - took a Vauxhall Astra left for repair at his brother's workshop in Masham, and headed for Ripon, Harrogate Magistrates' Court heard.
Martin Butterworth, prosecuting, said that the car broke down and 20-year-old Hill walked back to the storage compound with a friend and then took a Honda Civic.
But he crashed into a garden wall in Leyburn Road, Masham. He escaped with minor injuries.
Hill then called police and confessed. He was breath-tested and found to be almost one-and-a-half times over the drink drive limit.
Hill, of Millgate, Masham, admitted aggravated vehicle taking, drink-driving, taking a vehicle without consent and two counts each of driving without insurance or a licence.
Sentencing was adjourned for reports, and Hill was bailed until January 8 and banned from driving in the meantime.
