A SUPERMARKET has been judged to have the best festive decorations in Bishop Auckland, thanks to the efforts of local schoolchildren.
Youngsters from Staindrop Business and Enterprise College provided a festive display for Asda in Bishop Auckland, which won the town's annual Christmas shop window competition.
The event, open to all shops and businesses in the town, was based around the theme of light, and judging took place earlier this week.
Judges presented the store with a shield which will be kept for a year, and manager Brian Johnson said that the bright display had gone down well with customers.
Shaun Towers, the school's special educational needs study co-ordinator, said that the pupils had planned and created the display, which was put up late last month.
He said: "I came down with about 13 pupils in total and another member of staff and worked throughout the day.
"We are over the moon with how it looks, and especially to have won."
Derek Toon, Bishop Auckland Town Centre manager, said: "I am pleased so many shops entered this year.
"There were 21 in all and it brings a bit of Christmas cheer to the town. Hopefully even more will enter next year."
The runners-up were Reed Rains estate agents, and in third place was Blacketts Furniture Store, both in Newgate Street.
