HUNDREDS of youngsters have been rewarded for achievements.
The first academic year for the renamed Macmillan Academy provided the best results since the college opened in 1989.
The ceremony, held at the Stockton Road college, Middlesbrough, on Tuesday evening, saw certificates handed out for attendance and top achievements in class. There were also awards to students in voluntary work in the college's reception and information centre.
College principal Ken Fraser said: "While a number of factors contribute to this type of performance, it is the relentless commitment to quality teaching to provide captivating learning opportunities for the students that stands out.
"This review of the past year carries special significance, being the first year of Macmillan Academy. Following 16 years as a City Technology College, the designation was conferred hours before the start of this academic year in September 2005. This continues to represent an exceptional range of experiences for our students and a most impressive series of outcomes."
