AN ARMED robber who threatened a female assistant at a travel agents with what appeared to be a gun was tonight being hunted by police.
The man struck just before 2pm today at the the Travel Care Co-op Store in York Road, Hartlepool, when he confronted an assistant.
He produced what appeared to be a handgun and was given a small amount of cash. He then made off on foot onto York Road.
Detective Sergeant Mark Leonard said the raider was about 5ft 2ins tall, aged between 30-40 and of stocky build. He was wearing a navy blue woollen hat, a khaki-green jacket and dark trousers.
The woman assistant was badly shaken but not hurt.
DS Leonard added: "We believe there were a couple of customers in the store at the time of this raid and we would like to speak to them. We would also like to hear from anyone who was in the York Road area who may have noticed this man hanging around the store or walking quickly away from it."
