A TOURISM chief has joined a cathedral’s governing body.
Ivor Stolliday, chairman of Visit County Durham, has joined Durham Cathedral’s Chapter as a lay member.
A practising Anglican, he succeeds Carolyn Roberts, who has left her role as headteacher of Durham Johnston School for Thomas Tallis School, in London.
The Very Reverend Michael Sadgrove, the Dean of Durham, said the Chapter was grateful for Mrs Roberts’ work and was delighted to welcome Mr Stolliday.
“He is a highly regarded individual and brings a wealth of experience, particularly in the area of tourism and arts and culture.
“No doubt as we continue with our Open Treasure project, making the Cathedral’s important historic collections accessible to a greater number of visitors, his skills will be invaluable.”
Mr Stolliday said he was delighted and honoured.
He will be formally installed at an evensong service tomorrow (Saturday, September 21) at 5.15pm.
