AN ornate garden spread over five acres is opening its doors to the public.
Tudor Croft on Stokesley Road, Guisborough, features plants from across the world alongside fountains, a stream, bridges and even a secret garden.
It was built over a period of ten years during the 1930s and has been enlarged and constantly developed by the Heagney family since they bought Tudor Croft more than 60 years ago.
It has twice featured on television show ‘Gardeners’ World’ as well as in several magazines and can be admired by visitors on Saturday (August 17) from 2pm to 8pm.
Owner, Mike Heagney said: “We usually open in June or July, so this August opening will give everyone the opportunity to see a different range of plants in flower. Despite the dry conditions there is still a lot of colour.
“Proceeds will go to support the Youth Service of the Middlesbrough Diocese. Its work principally involves a team of young people who live together in a community and go into local schools to help children and young adults in an understanding of themselves, their lives and their faith.”
Soft drinks, wines and canapés will be served and there will be plants for sale at the event which will also include live music by the Amici Musicali trio.
Landscape artist, James McGairy, will be creating a painting of the garden throughout the afternoon.
The garden, which has the postcode TS14 8DL for satellite navigation devices, will be signposted and parking will be available at nearby St Paulinus church and on roads nearby.
