Lifeguards sealed off part of the beach at Whitley Bay this afternoon (Wednesday, June 5) after a report that a hand grenade had been found.
Officers from Northumbria Police arrived after the alarm was raised at 2.30pm and were able to confirm that it was infact a plastic imitation - and posed no danger.
