A GCSE student spent time behind bars in the hope of earning a good grade for his art exam.
Barnard Castle School pupil Arran Keogh, 16, chose “caged” from a list of 10 topics for his art project.
He decided to focus on imprisonment – and asked the town's police if he could visit the station's cells to see what life was like for those locked up.
ART PROJECT: Arran's finished work
Officers were happy to oblige and Arran went along with his friend, Leonard Beadle, who agreed to pose as a prisoner for a series of photographs.
“I needed him to pose with some props and from the photographs, I drew three pictures that went well together,” explained Arran.
He added some lines from the Bible about being caged up and finally made some metal bars to go over the top of the picture.
“I think it came out a lot better than I expected it to and it's up on the wall ready for the examiners' visit.”
Arran's work will also be on display with the rest of the GCSE projects at the end of term exhibition on Monday, June 24, in Barnard Castle School's art department from 5pm to 7pm.
