A POP music spectacular will grace the gardens of one of the region's top hotels this summer.

The event at the Hardwick Hall Hotel, near Sedgefield, County Durham, will feature Texas, Alison Moyet and Jools Holland.

Texas, the six-time platinum selling rock group, who recently made a successful comeback after an eight-year break, will top the bill at the Hardwick Live Garden Party on Saturday, September 14 which is expected to attract 7,000 people.

John Adamson, managing director of Ramside Estates, which owns the hotel, said: “The Hardwick Live Garden Party is a first for us and a unique music event for the region.

“All the confirmed acts are top musicians and singer songwriters in their own right, so music lovers can look forward to some brilliant live performances in a fantastic lakeside setting.”

Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson said he was delighted to see such high profile musicians heading to the region, adding: “I wish the organisers every success.”

Chris Lines, chairman of Sedgefield Town Council, said the event was an exciting prospect, but also presented some challenges.

“I hope that the garden party brings some valuable income to businesses in Sedgefield, and perhaps some temporary employment and other benefits,” he said.

“I look forward to learning more details about the organisers’ plans to manage traffic and parking, and minimise any disruption for local residents, especially late at night.”

Since forming in 1989, lead singer Sharleen Spiteri and Texas have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide thanks to hits such as Halo, Say What You Want and, most recently, The Conversation.

The Sedgefield performance will be the band’s only North-East gig this year.

Founder of the band Squeeze, Jools Holland has enjoyed a hugely successful 29-year career in the music and TV industry.

He will appear on stage with his renowned Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.

Alison Moyet, meanwhile, shot to fame in the 1980s with the band Yazoo and has since enjoyed a celebrated solo career.

Adding to the stellar line-up will be Britain’s Got Talent sensations the Loveable Rogues, local acts, Natasha Haws and the Fishburn Brass Band, and several top DJs.

The event, which takes place from noon to 11pm, is also hoped to raise funds for the North-East autism charity Daisy Chain.

Tickets are now on sale priced at £39 per adult, £10 for 13 to 16-year-olds and £5 for children aged three to 12. Youngsters under two go free.

They are available at hardwicklive.co.uk, Hardwick Hall Hotel and Ramside Hall Hotel.
