OLYMPIC triathletes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee have teamed up with the National Trust to host a unique event in the grounds of Fountains Abbey and the Studley Royal gardens.
World Champion and Olympic bronze medallist, Jonny Brownlee, said the brothers' parents used to take them to the Abbey for walks to try to wear them out as young children and they have many fond memories of the place.
The super sprint triathlon is being held on Saturday, September 21 starting with a 400 metre swim in the Studley Royal lake, a 10km bike ride through the medieval deer park and finally a 2km run through the water garden and ruins of Fountains Abbey.
Olympic gold medallist Alistair Brownlee said: "We want this triathlon to be part of our legacy.
"Yorkshire is our county and it has played a key part in our success, it’s a great location for our first event.”
Chris Fowler, general manager at Fountains Abbey said: "This is going to be a unique event, not just for triathletes who will get to run through the iconic ruins, but for spectators too.
"We’re thrilled that Alistair and Jonny are combining their love of triathlon with this special place.”
