AN investigation is underway after a woman riding a motorised trike died when it hit a wall and overturned.
Gwenda Ward, of Stanley Way, Billy Row, Crook, was travelling on a Rover Diablo trike motor vehicle when the accident occurred.
It happened on the A689 at the Newton Cap Viaduct, Bishop Auckland, shortly after 1pm on Monday, June 3.
The 59-year-old suffered head injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.
Police say she was travelling north towards Toronto and had just reached the bridge when the trike veered across the road, hit the kerb and the bridge parapet.
It overturned before rolling back onto the main carriage in the north bound lane.
The road was closed for four hours while the police carried out an investigation.
Witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw the trike shortly beforehand is asked to call the collision investigation unit on 0191-3752157.
