A RANGE of environmental events are being held for people in the North-East from Wednesday this week.
Residents in County Durham are being encouraged to join in this year’s World Environment Day activities.
They includes a food awareness day in Durham Market Place and a climate change event in Consett as well as planting and litter picks throughout the county.
The theme this year is Think.Eat.Save, an anti-food loss campaign which aims to promote awareness of the importance of reducing food waste.
A range of organisations are involved in the activities with a food awareness day on Friday from 10am until 4pm in Durham Market Place.
There will be information stalls and practical demonstrations alongside the continental market.
Litter picks will take place in Leadgate on Wednesday at 10.30am, meeting in the car park behind the GP surgery on Watling Street, and in Eggleston Village on Saturday between 2pm and 4pm.
Litter will also be the theme in Framwellgate Moor on Wednesday when council neighbourhood wardens and police officers will be carrying out increased patrols in the Front Street area.
An ‘Altogether greener challenges and changes’ event will be held at St. Patrick’s Church Hall, Victoria Road, Consett, on Wednesday (June 5) between 1.30pm and 4pm.
Also on Wednesday there will be planting sessions at Ropery Walk Primary School, Seaham, from 11am, at Trimdon Village Junior School, Trimdon Village at 10.30pm and Eldon Lane CREE Group, One Stop Shop Eldon Lane, Bishop Auckland, at 1pm.
On Thursday, at 10.45am, there will be a planting sessions at Gilesgate roundabout flower bed.
