THE newly-appointed manager of an arts and community centre believes it will play a central role in the life of a County Durham market town.
Erica Morris took up her post as centre manager for The Witham, in Barnard Castle, this week.
The complex is currently undergoing a £3.2m revamp ahead of its planned reopening in the autumn.
Ms Morris, 34, who moved to The Witham from Keswick-based Theatre by the Lake, said she was looking forward to an interesting and exciting challenge.
“My expertise is in event management and arts administration and this seemed like an exciting opportunity.
“You don't get many arts centres that have had the investment to provide something that's going to be of real benefit to the community and has so many facets.”
She added: “It is going to be a real hub for the town with loads of potential for the community.”
Once building work has been finished, The Witham will offer a range of facilities including stage and cinema, a refurbished library and county council information point, studios, gallery and office accommodation.
