A CARE home evoked memories of a bygone era for residents by celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation.
South Church Nursing Home, in Bishop Auckland, was decked out in red, white and blue today (Sunday, June 2) and staff held a street party for residents.
Event coordinator, Jan Humble, said: “We try to celebrate as many special times of the year or events as we can, to give them a sense of time and trigger fond memories.
“Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Coronation was really good fun, the residents enjoyed singing some old songs and they like a bit of nostalgia.
“Some with dementia cannot remember recent things but can remember happy times from back in the day like attending a street party to see the Queen crowned, lots of them are very patriotic and like to celebrate royal occasions.”
