A FEMALE shop assistant was assaulted during a "cowardly" robbery early on Saturday morning.
Cleveland Police said four males wearing hooded tops to conceal their identity walked into the Spar shop on Queen Street in Redcar at 6.45am today.
They stole a quantity of cigarettes and alcohol before escaping on foot towards Clifford Street.
A female shop assistant was assaulted during the robbery and left shaken by her ordeal.
Detective Sergeant Paul Husband of Redcar and Cleveland CID, said: "This was a particularly cowardly attack and detectives are keen to trace anyone who was in the vicinity of the store at this time, particularly a young man seen leaving the store as the males entered."
