A GARDEN built by a construction team from North Yorkshire has won a People’s Choice award at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Keith Chapman MBE, 27, who runs his own landscaping firm from Richmond, helped build a garden designed by Chris Beardshaw to show the journey of an arthritis sufferer.
The garden won gold for Best Build, and the People’s Choice award at the prestigious garden show.
Mr Chapman said he enjoys working on gardens that help promote a charity, and he was proud to support Arthritis Research UK.
He said: “The garden for Arthritis Research UK told the story of a patient’s journey from diagnosis, through treatment to living with or overcoming the condition.”
The garden took 18 days to build and included a nine metre oak tree which had to be delivered on its own articulated lorry.
He added: “It was good to raise awareness for arthritis and show that it is not just an older person’s condition – it can affect children too.”
In three weeks time, Mr Chapman will be completing a new garden at Hampton Court.
