KITCHEN FIRE: An elderly man was rescued from his home in York when a fire broke out in his kitchen this afternoon (Thursday, May 30.) A window cleaner who was in the area threw water from his bowl onto the blaze and extinguished the flames before firefighters arrived. The fire was started by a chip pan.
Crews from Acomb and York Fire Station got the elderly man out of his home in a street off Nunnery Lane in the South Bank area of the city.
He was suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
