AN EXHIBITION of embroidery and textile art inspired by the Lindisfarne Gospels has gone on display in a Durham Cathedral chapel.
The collection, titled Lindsfarne – Faith, Inspiration and Stitch, has been created by members of the North East Region of the Embroiderers’ Guild and will be on show in the cathedral’s Galilee Chapel until Sunday, June 23.
More than 100 artists from 12 branches of the guild have contributed to the exhibition, which was previewed at an event at Emmanuel College, in Gateshead, earlier this month.
The pieces showcase a range of techniques, including cross stitch, black-work, canvas-work and gold-work.
The exhibition is open daily from 9.30am to 6pm. Entry is free and open to all.
A preview evening was held on Monday, May 27. Guests included Councillor Pauline Charlton, chairman of Durham County Council, and Canon Sheila Bamber, Canon Provost at Sunderland Minster.
The Lindisfarne Gospels will be on display in Palace Green Library, Durham, from July 1 to September 30. For further details, visit lindisfarnegospels.com
