MEMBERS of two of a city’s oldest institutions will explain their work at an event this weekend (Saturday, June 1).
Representatives of City of Durham Freemen and the Mayor of Durham’s Bodyguard will be available to answer questions from members of the public at Durham Town Hall.
The event, titled Behind the City Walls, is part of the month-long Festival of the North East, counting down to the return of the Lindisfarne Gospels to Durham from July to September.
The freemen can trace their roots to 1327 and now number more than 200 members. The ceremonial bodyguard is the oldest in England outside London.
The event will run from 10am to 4pm and is open to all. Entry is free. Visitors can also explore the historic town hall.
