A CYCLIST taking on a fundraising bike ride in aid of Prostate Cancer UK is going one step further than the traditional John O’Groats to Lands End route.
Ben Scotting, 45, from Scorton, near Richmond, will be cycling from Dunnet Head – the true most northerly part of mainland UK – to Lizard Point – the true most southerly point of mainland UK.
Mr Scotting, a member of Darlington Cycling Club, is currently heading south and passed through Scorton, Lancashire, for a picture with locals who have pledged to support his cause.
He said: “The ride is going really well, I think I have raised in the region of £700 though my Just Giving page and other donations.
“The weather has been terrible but at least the wind has been coming from the north and north-east so it has been behind me.
“I wanted to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK because it is a good cause and I wanted to create more awareness for it.”
James Cottle, from Scorton, Lancashire, said: “We were so impressed with his enthusiasm and commitment that several local people have asked for details of the sponsored event to be posted in the village shop so that they can add their own sponsorship to this great cause.”
Mr Scotting is completing the ride solo and aims to finish within 15 days.
