A GRANDMOTHER watched in horror as her terrier was mauled to death by three dogs on a beach stroll.
The woman was walking along Zinc Works Road in Hartlepool, known locally as the Blue Lagoon, with her grandson, nine, and her 11-year-old terrier and border collie at about 5.10pm on Saturday (May 25) when the horrific attack happened.
A spokewoman for Cleveland Police who are appealing for witnesses, said: “A dog described as a greyhound or lurcher ran up to her dogs, then ran off. The dog then returned with another two dogs of the same breed and all three attacked the small terrier causing fatal injuries.
"The lady and her grandson were left extremely shaken and distressed, witnessing their pet being killed."
She added: "A man then approached, took the three dogs and ran away, leaving the woman and boy with the badly injured dog.”
It is believed that a man on the beach may have witnessed the attack and may be able to help police with their enquiries, said the spokeswoman. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency 101 number.
