AN elderly woman has died following a Bank Holiday smash on one of North Yorkshire’s main routes.

The woman, who has not been named, died after being airlifted to hospital following the crash on the A64 at Ganton, near Scarborough.

She was the passenger in a grey Ford Mondeo which collided with two other vehicles - a blue Vauxhall Astra and a blue BMW – at around 1.15pm on Monday.

The road was closed in both directions until around 8pm while officers investigated the incident and the vehicles were recovered.

Traffic Sergeant Hamish Halloway said: "Sadly an elderly woman died as a result of this collision and we are currently investigating the circumstances.

"I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw any of the vehicles involved prior to the incident to come forward as soon as they can.

"In particular a blue Vauxhall Astra that was seen travelling on the A64 near to Malton and Scarborough in the morning prior to the collision and its manner of driving."

Anyone with information should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option two, and ask for Hamish Halloway or e-mail hamish.halloway@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
