A series of five recitals by past and present organists are being held at St Oswald’s Church, Church Street, Durham City, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the inauguration of a new organ after the old one had been destroyed by fire.
Built by Peter Collins, it was hailed as one of the finest organs in the region.
The first recital, by organist and director of Music at Halifax Minster, Chris Brown, will take place on Friday, May 31, at 7.30pm with others throughout the year.
His programme will include music by Bach, Boellmann and Hakim.
Tickets are available at the door for £5, children free, and includes light refreshments.

SIXTIES TUNES: The Animals and Friends, featuring original band members John Steel and Micky Gallagher, alongside Peter Barton and Danny Handley, are coming to The Empire Theare in Consett, on Friday, June 21 at 7.30pm.
They will be performing favourite tunes including House of The Rising Sun, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place and Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.

POLICE MEETING: A public meeting for people to discuss concerns about crime is being held at Tanfield Village Church Hall, Tanfield Village, Stanley, on Wednesday, from 6.30pm-7.30pm. The meeting will be attended by a representative from the neighbourhood policing team and will be specific to the area. Individual community priorities will be discussed. All members of the community are welcome.
LET’S DANCE: Simply Ballroom Classes to help people learning dancing are being held at The Lamplight Arts Centre in Stanley on Tuesdays from 7pm.

FAMILY FUN: A community family fun day organised by Churches Together In Consett is being held at Blackhill and Consett Park on June 29 from 2pm-6pm. Events include messy play, live music and entertainment, sports, bouncy castle, fire engine and refreshments.
GOOD CHEER: Children's cheerleading classes are held at the Louisa Centre in Stanley. Youngsters can learn cheers, dance moves, jumps and tumbles, all with pom-poms. They are every Wednesday from 4.30pm-5.15pm for children aged six-12 years old. Sessions cost £2.60. For more information call 01207-218877.
