DETECTIVES are investigating after a man entered a florist shop and snatched money from the till.
Peterlee CID are appealing for witnesses after the suspect walked into The Barrow florists and general dealers, in Seaside Lane, Easington Colliery, and grabbed cash.
Police are particularly keen to speak to a woman who was in the shop at the time, described as sun-tanned as if she had just returned from holiday, who could be a key witness, as well as anyone else who was in the area between 2.15pm and 2.30pm on Saturday.
Detective Constable Martin Wilson, of Peterlee CID, said: “The woman was badly shaken by the incident but was otherwise unhurt.”
He said officers believe the incident was “opportunist” and appealed for the woman to contact police as she may have vital information to help with the inquiry.
The man, described as white, aged about 40, of medium build with light brown hair and wearing a black hooded jacket and grey sweater and smelling strongly of alcohol, is said to have pushed past the shop assistant, a woman in her late 40s, before grabbing money from an open till and then fleeing the shop.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Peterlee CID on 101.
