SHOPPERS in one of the region’s historic city centre’s are enjoying a taste of yesteryear with the recreation of life during the Second World War.
The 1940s was brought to Durham’s Market Place today (Sunday, May 26) with a range of attractions from the period and will continue tomorrow.
As well as entertainment from the era, there was also a jeep and Dodge weapons carrier as well as a vintage and general market, selling a range of old fashioned vintage clothes along with gifts and food.
Period re-enactors from Yesterday’s Heroes local living history group donned American infantry and US Naval uniforms, bringing the past to life.
Colin Wilkes, managing director of Durham Markets, said: “We have a full capacity market for each day, with entertainment to add to the atmosphere. “There is something for all the family.”
