A GROUP determined to preserve and celebrate the Teesdale landscape will hold an open day and barbecue next weekend to get people involved in the project.
The Heart of Teesdale Landscape Partnership will hold their Big Day Out at the Hub in Barnard Castle on Sunday, June 2, in association with national events the Big Lunch and Volunteers’ Week.
The event is an opportunity for the local community to find out about the group’s activities, see projects and enjoy the Big Lunch Barbecue.
The event is also to encourage new volunteers to get involved with the partnership’s volunteering opportunities, and to say thank you to current volunteers for their hard work and enthusiasm.
There will be a dry stone walling task in the morning from 10.30am for volunteers and anyone who would like to give it a try.
At noon there will be a short presentation from the Partnership on the progress of activities and projects followed by the Big Lunch Barbecue from 12.30pm to 2pm which is part of a national campaign to get people to have lunch out in their communities.
The partnership started in 2011 with a £1.9m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to look after Teesdale’s landscapes and history and promote the area.
