WALLING TUITION: Visitors to Harehope Quarry near Frosterley in Weardale, County Durham, can try their hand at dry stone walling on Saturday, September 14. Places on the course run by Peter Moorhead cost £40 and need to be booked by calling Nic Cullens on 01388-528801. The course runs from 10am to 4pm and participants need to be fit and prepared for a day of lifting stones and digging.
POACHER’S PLAY: The Bonny Moor Hen, a play about starving lead miners who fought the Bishop of Durham’s men in 1818 after their friends were arrested for poaching much-needed food, will be performed at Killhope The North Of England Lead Mining in Weardale, County Durham, at 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, June 29 and 30. Tickets cost £5 for adults, £3 concessions and £10 for families. The story will be played out promenade style so warm clothing and appropriate footwear is essential.
