MUSLIMS in the region have joined together to pray for murdered soldier Lee Rigby and condemn the attackers who took his life.

Worshipers from the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in the North-East travelled to London to join 5,000 worshipers at the Baitul Futuh Mosque to offer prayers to the soldier who was murdered in broad daylight on Wednesday.

Muslims also prayed for the soldier and his family at Friday prayers at mosques in the region, including Nasir Mosque, in Hartlepool, where the congregation was addressed by Maulana Tahir Selby.

Wadood Ahmad Daud, a Hartlepool youth leader with Ahmadiyya Muslim community, said: “We want to stand with the rest of the nation and say we're against these actions.

“This soldier had a two-year-old son and it's tragic event.”
