MILITARY families at Europe's biggest Army base will march in memory of murdered Woolwich soldier Lee Rigby next week.
Organisers are hope hundreds of people will take part in the walk from Catterick Garrison to Richmond - and help raise money for the soldier's family.
The march has been announced as it emerges Drummer Rigby was based at Catterick in 2007 after completing his training at the town's Infantry Training Centre a year earlier.
The march is the idea of military wife Annmarie Brown, who before moving to Catterick lived near Woolwich Barracks where husband Robert was based.
She said: “The march is to honour Drummer Lee Rigby.
“We were going to raise money for Help for Heroes but we heard a friend of the soldier from Woolwich has already collected £30,000 so we decided to raise money for his family instead.
“It's not about why this happened or who did it – it's about him and what he and other soldiers stand for.”
The march will leave St Martin and St Oswald's Garrison Memorial Church, in Catterick Garrison, at 10am on Sunday, June 2 with participants walking to the Friary Gardens War Memorial, in Richmond.
At the memorial, people will be invited to lay flowers or light a candle in memory of the solider.
A book of condolences will also be available for people to sign and leave a message.
Mrs Brown said: “We only want people there who want to take part in a peaceful march.
“It's not about colour, race or religion - it's about honouring this soldier and raising some money.”
More than 300 people have so far said they would take part.
A bucket collection is planned during the march, as well as a raffle with local businesses urged to donate prizes.
Several people have already volunteered to steward the event, but Mrs Brown is looking for more helpers.
She is also hoping an Army bugler can be found to play the Last Post at the war memorial. North Yorkshire Police confirmed that they were aware of the plans.
The event was initially scheduled for this weekend but the date was changed to avoid the annual Richmond Meet.
