A TRADITIONAL tea dance has given children in north Durham a taste of how their forebears would have socialised.
Lindy jazz performed by a live band was played at Bullion Lane Primary School in Chester-le-Street, while pupils taught their parents and grandparents dance steps they have been learning.
Wearing period fancy dress, they did apple jack steps and the Charleston to tunes ranging from the 1920s to the 40s.
Children and visitors enjoyed a range of cakes with homemade plum jam and tea from China cups.
Class teacher Deborah Baird said: “The children have absolutely loved it and absolutely shone. It has been a great way to build up relations with the community.”
